- Universitaly validation is critical. For AY 2026/2027, only students whose Universitaly pre-enrolment applications are validated by the relevant Italian university are eligible to submit a study visa application where this step applies.
- Visa application deadline: 30 November 2026. The Embassy of Italy in Islamabad states this as the deadline for AY 2026/2027 visa applications.
- Type D visa + residence permit. For courses longer than 90 days, Pakistani students generally need a National Type D Study Visa. After arrival, students must apply for Permesso di Soggiorno per Motivi di Studio within 8 working days.
- Apostille from 18 November 2024. The Embassy of Italy in Islamabad accepts only documents apostilled by the Government of Pakistan. Verify current Apostille, translation, and MOFA guidance before submission.
- DOV and CIMEA are case-specific. Do not blindly apply for DOV or CIMEA. The Italian university must confirm in writing whether either is required.
- Financial means formula: EUR 206.58 fixed + EUR 27.89 per day. For one year this equals approximately EUR 10,386.43 for subsistence only. Students must also show tuition, accommodation, travel, insurance, and extra buffer.
- Travel medical insurance: minimum EUR 30,000 coverage, valid for one year per the Type D checklist.
- Scam warning. Use only official appointment channels. Do not rely on WhatsApp agents, unofficial appointment sellers, or third-party payment requests.
Overview — Italy Study Visa for Pakistani Students
Italy is a popular European study destination for Pakistani students because of public universities, English-taught programs, regional scholarships, specialized schools, and access to a strong European academic environment.
Pakistani students planning to study in Italy for more than 90 days normally need a National Type D Study Visa before travelling. After arrival, the student must apply for a residence permit, called Permesso di Soggiorno per Motivi di Studio, usually within 8 working days.
For higher education programs, Universitaly pre-enrolment is a key step where applicable. For Academic Year 2026/2027, the Embassy of Italy in Islamabad states that only students whose pre-enrolment has been validated by the relevant Italian university through Universitaly are eligible to submit a visa application.
A strong Italy study visa file is not only about receiving university admission. The student should also prepare validated Universitaly pre-enrolment, correct academic documents, Apostille and translations where required, DOV or CIMEA position from the university, financial proof, sponsor documents, accommodation evidence, travel medical insurance, study plan, and consistent documents.
This page is general guidance only. Italian visa rules, Universitaly procedures, deadlines, fees, Apostille requirements, document checklists, and appointment systems can change. Students should always verify the latest requirements through the Embassy/Consulate of Italy, Universitaly, the Italian university, and the official Italy Visa Application Centre before submission.

Universitaly Pre-Enrolment Guidance
Universitaly is the official portal used for international student pre-enrolment in Italian higher education. Students create an account, select the institution and course, and upload the qualifications and documents required for the chosen program.
For visa purposes, pre-enrolment must be validated by the Italian university where required. For AY 2026/2027, the Embassy of Italy in Islamabad states that only students whose Universitaly pre-enrolment applications have been validated by the relevant Italian university are eligible to submit a visa application.
DOV, CIMEA, Apostille and Translation Planning
Declaration of Value (DOV): DOV is an informational document issued by the competent Italian diplomatic or consular authority. It describes the nature, level, legal duration, entry requirements, grading system, and value of the foreign qualification in the issuing country. It is not the same as degree recognition.
CIMEA: Some Italian universities ask for a CIMEA Statement of Comparability and/or Verification instead of DOV, or in addition to it. Students should follow the exact university instruction and keep written proof from the Italian university confirming whether DOV or CIMEA is required or not.
Apostille: From 18 November 2024, the Embassy of Italy in Islamabad accepts only documents apostilled by the Government of Pakistan. Students should prepare documents through the relevant Pakistani authority, arrange translation into Italian where required, and complete Apostille through MOFA according to the latest procedure.
Financial Proof: More Than Just Bank Balance
For an Italy study visa, financial documents should show more than a number in the account. Funds should be genuine, stable, traceable, and consistent with the sponsor's income profile.
Common financial red flags:
- Sudden large unexplained deposits
- Weak sponsor income compared with bank balance
- No sponsor affidavit when sponsored, or no relationship proof
- No tax returns or income/source-of-funds evidence
- Property shown but weak liquid funds
- Tuition and living costs not both covered
- Documents that contradict university application, Universitaly details, or interview answers
- Fake bank statements, fake admission letters, or forged academic documents
English or Italian Language Proof
Italian programs may be taught in English or Italian. The language requirement depends on the university, course, and visa checklist. The Embassy of Italy Islamabad study visa checklist lists a valid IELTS certificate with photocopy, so IELTS is highly recommended for Pakistani applicants even when a university accepts another proof. For Italian-taught programs, an Italian language certificate, commonly B2, is typically required.
Your Study Plan Should Explain Why Italy and Why This Program
A strong Italy study visa file should explain why the selected course is the logical next step. The study plan should connect previous education, skills, career goals, university selection, language readiness, financial plan, and post-study plan.
Weak study plan red flags:
- "Italy has cheap education" or "I want to travel in Europe"
- "I selected this program because admission is easy"
- "I want to work in Italy" without academic explanation
- Generic SOP copied from the internet
- Study plan that does not match previous education or documents
Accommodation, Flight and Insurance Proof
Italy study visa applicants should prepare credible accommodation, travel, and insurance documents. Accommodation proof may include university accommodation confirmation, rental agreement, declaration of hospitality, hotel or temporary booking. Flight booking should be one-way for Type D visa. Travel medical insurance must cover at least EUR 30,000 and be valid for one year per the Type D checklist.
Italy Study Visa Interview Preparation
Students should be ready to explain their study plan clearly. Interview answers should match the admission letter, Universitaly details, financial documents, academic history, accommodation evidence, and future career plan. Students should be ready to discuss: why Italy, why this university and program, how the program matches previous studies, career plans, who is funding the studies and the sponsor's income source, living arrangements in Italy, whether Universitaly validation is complete, whether DOV or CIMEA is needed, how living costs will be covered, and any previous refusals.
Shaheen Visa does not train students to memorize fake answers. We help students prepare truthful, natural, case-specific explanations that match their documents.
Work Rights While Studying in Italy
A student residence permit generally allows part-time work. University guidance commonly states up to 20 hours per week and 1,040 hours per year. Work should remain secondary to study, and work should not replace the financial proof required for the visa. Future part-time work income should not be used as the main proof of financial capacity in the visa application.
After Arrival in Italy
A Type D study visa allows entry into Italy, but it does not replace the residence permit. After arrival, students must apply for the Permesso di Soggiorno per Motivi di Studio within 8 working days. Students should also: keep postal receipt and Questura appointment evidence, complete final university enrolment, activate university services, arrange local accommodation documents, follow study and work conditions, and renew residence permit if studies continue.
Students should not ignore post-arrival compliance because mistakes after arrival can affect future renewals.
Use Official Appointment Channels Only
The Embassy and Consulate warn against unofficial WhatsApp or mobile appointment sellers and third-party payment scams. Students should use only official appointment and visa application channels.
- Do not pay unofficial agents for appointment promises
- Do not share passport or bank documents with unknown sellers
- Do not rely on fake appointment screenshots
- Do not trust anyone claiming embassy influence
- Keep all receipts and official confirmations
Shaheen Visa provides document preparation and guidance support only. We do not claim embassy access, appointment control, or guaranteed visa approval.
Why Pakistani Students Choose Italy
- Public universities and specialized institutions across many fields
- English-taught bachelor's and master's options in selected programs
- Strong fields such as engineering, architecture, design, fashion, business, economics, arts, medicine, and research
- Regional scholarship opportunities may exist, depending on eligibility and documentation
- Many Italian public universities can be more affordable than some other study destinations, but living costs, documents, and visa proof still matter
Common Italy Study Visa Refusal Risks for Pakistani Students
- Universitaly not validated where required
- Incomplete documents or missing checklist items
- Missing Apostille or translation where required
- Missing DOV/CIMEA where university requires it
- Unclear study intention or weak course explanation
- Program mismatch with previous education or career path
- Weak financial evidence or sudden unexplained bank deposits
- Sponsor income not matching available funds
- Missing relationship proof with sponsor or missing tax returns/income proof
- Fake accommodation, fake bank statements, or forged academic documents
- IELTS or language proof issue
- Tuition fee proof missing where required
- Using unofficial appointment agents
- Previous refusals not disclosed or poorly explained
A previous refusal does not always mean the student can never be approved, but reapplying with the same weak file usually does not help. The new application should address the actual refusal concerns with stronger evidence, corrected documents, and clearer explanation.
